15-19th of February 2012 20.00 p.m.

Yamato, the drummers of Japan. The place where Yamato performs is the space where people gather in the resounding beat of drums. The moments are born when the sound created by Yamato resonates with the pulse of everybody present. Ripples of pulses and gently overlap. The sound of drums, which were made of animal skin and ancient trees, some of are more than 400 years old, as the pulse or the Heartbeat (Shin-on).
The central to Yamato's production is, of course, the Wadaiko drumming. Yamato was founded in 1993 by Masa Ogawa. In Japanese, the word “”wadaiko” translates as “Japanese drum” and “Yamato' was the former name of the city of Nara, the group's bithplace. Since its creation, the group has made over one thousand live performances to over one million people in more than 20 countries in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
In the beginning of 2012 they will introduce their new program “Gamushara” to the audience in Hungary. “Gamushara” means to be completely absorbed by the pursuit of one goal, without thinking about what's going to happen next. Once you'e found your dream, your vision of future try not to think about it too much. Just go off in the direction of that purpose, completely in the moment. It is all about ecstatic enthusiasm.

The Indian Kalaripayattu is considered to be the most ancient form of martial arts. This tradition has been embedded in the social and religious life of people in South-India for thousands of years. Kalaripayattu is practiced in the kalari (meaning battlefield, gym) which also serves as the local practitioner's office. The Gurukkal (the leader of kalari) is a master, a doctor and a philosopher at the same time, and the kalari is the temple of the body's physical and mental well-being. Kalaripayattu has 5 systematic steps after which the student acquires the technical exercises, the usage of different wooden and iron weapons, hand-to-hand fighting, the student learns the body's vital points (marma) and the different treatments for wounds. Kalaripayattu developed a scientific massage therapy as well, based on the Ayurveda.

The Indian contemporary dance fusion is presented by the Kala Amrita Company with the contribution of Hariprasad Bonsalay. The story uses one of the North-Malabar ballads (Vadakkan Pattukal). The title of the performance, Unniyarcha is the symbol of female attainments. Unniyarcha was a woman warrior, not only trained in using weapons, but she also protected women from the men of rival communes. The play shows the varied significance of female abilities in India and illustrates the boundaries of feminine powers in a unique way. Besides classical and modern elements, the choreography uses yoga and Kalaripayattu movements, and builds on the fight of male and female energies, on the search for harmony.

"...now is the time to invoke female power, the primal energy, the Shakti, now is the time to fight fire with counter-fire, outer with the inner." (Chandralekha)

Tom Jones Concert

Papp László Budapest Sportaréna
Tuesday, 22. Nov 2011, 20:00

Tom’s 46-year career has remarkably gone from strength to strength. Along with sustaining his popularity as a live performer and recording artist for more than four decades, he has garnered—at the age of 70—the best reviews of his career for his recent album, Praise & Blame (Island/Lost Highway/Universal). Critics across the world are unanimous in their approval and admiration for both the recorded work and the performance of it in concert.

The Praise & Blame mantra was ‘get back to basics’, and the album was recorded as wholly live performances at Peter Gabriel’s studio in Bath, England, produced by Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne, Laura Marling, Paolo Nutini). The result witnesses a singer at the top of his game, with the songs themselves coaxing exhilarating performances out of Tom and his band. Played live to astounding success at festivals and venues in the UK and Europe, Tom now brings Praise & Blame to concertgoers everywhere as part of his live show experience in 2011.
